Jeffrey Weber, of Seaford, has been sentenced in Manhattan federal court to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty last December to attempted child enticement, U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman announced this week.

Weber, 59, was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.

Between Jan. 30 and Feb. 14 last year, Weber sent emails and text messages to engage in sexually explicit conversations with an undercover law enforcement agent posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Berman said that Weber initiated the conversations after responding to a Craigslist listing advertising  “a younger girl looking for an older guy,” posted by the undercover agent.

During the conversations, Weber discussed several sexual acts he wished to perform on the girl and made a plan to meet the girl at a diner in Manhattan and to then go to her nearby apartment for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.  On Feb. 14,

Weber was arrested at the diner where he planned to meet the girl, carrying condoms, and other items. At the time of his arrest, Weber was employed as a tutor for children.

“Jeffrey Weber, who by profession had regular contact with children, pled guilty to attempting to engage in sex with a 13-year-old girl,” Berman said. “He has now been sentenced to a lengthy term in prison, where he will not be able to prey on children.”
